How to protect yourself
- Never share OTPs, CVV, UPI PIN or screen access with anyone - no bank or agency ever asks for them.
- Verify the identifier on Garuda before you pay, click a link, or install an app.
- Pay only through official, verifiable channels; avoid direct UPI transfers to unknown IDs.
- If you have lost money, report immediately on the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (cybercrime.gov.in) or call 1930.
Reported cases
OLX Mac Mini 16GB for 32k in Kolkata “Samsung India Electronics”. Found a Mac Mini 16GB for 32k on OLX. Seller name is “SAMSUNG INDIA ELECTRONICS PVT.LTD” in Taratala, Kolkata. Got their WhatsApp via OLX. Details they gave: Address: G895+4V3, CPT Colony, Taratala, Kolkata, West Bengal 700088 Insta: @adityapcstore Website: pcseller.store WhatsApp: 9006181372 GSTIN: 19AAACS5123K1ZA Their story: Mac Mini is in Haldia port container warehouse, “no Indian owner yet,” so I must pay first to book it. Then they’ll send invoice + tracking in 1 hour. 30-day return + 1-year warranty. Say I can come to the store and pay directly. Red flags: Can’t test before paying only ships after payment “Pay to unlock ownership” sounds like a classic import scam 32k is way below market for a 16GB Mac Mini Won’t let me see it physically before payment despite saying “store pickup available”
